AAS - Integrated Airport Apron Safety Fleet Management
Final results of the European R&D project AAS - enhancement of safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability for airport apron operations.
The enhancement of safety and efficiency on the apron was the core objective of the AAS project. Furthermore, the AAS system aimed at significantly improving the environmental sustainability by decreasing movements and fuel consumption.
For the reason of the successful finalisation of the project in April 2011 the project team would like to share the project results with users, stakeholders and the scientific community. The AAS project has a large potential to face the challenges of increasing air traffic and pressure on airport operators as well as ground handlers. The AAS system significantly optimises resource allocation and makes ground handling processes safer. Safety is a crucial factor since costs of more than USD 3 bn. arise annually due to uninsured losses. The figure on this site gives an overview of the AAS project’s achievements and impacts on key performance areas such as safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness and environmental sustainability.
